About Us

LET US INTRODUCE OURSELVES

About Us & What We Offer

At the foot of the Aberdare Ranges, where the air is crisp, the forest is ancient and the outside world feels wonderfully far away, you’ll find Trout and About, a place to slow down, breathe deeply and rediscover the quiet joys that busy lives often leave behind.

Wander beneath towering red cedars, pines, cypress and bamboo. Listen for birdsong among the trees, marvel at the forest’s rich flora and wildlife, or simply sit still and let nature work its gentle magic. As evening falls, gather around the bonfire and watch the stars emerge above the woodland canopy.

For an easy, comfortable escape, our Ready Camp safari tents are ideal for families, first-time campers and anyone who wants the wonder of sleeping in nature without the hassle of bringing camping equipment.

Come for the scenery, the stillness and the adventure. Leave feeling lighter, closer and more alive.

HOW IT ALL CAME TO BE

Our Story

Trout and About began with a simple belief: when people and nature thrive together, something truly special becomes possible.

We are a community-based organisation operating a trout hatchery and campsite in the heart of the Aberdare Forest. Our story grew from a partnership between the Kenya Forest Service and the Kiburu Community Forest Association. This is a shared commitment to protect this remarkable landscape while creating meaningful value for the local community and for those who come here seeking rest, adventure and connection.

Since 2015, conservation has remained at the heart of everything we do. We work to protect the rivers that sustain healthy trout populations and preserve the wider forest ecosystem they call home.

When you visit Trout and About, you become part of that story: an encounter with a living forest, a caring community and a future worth protecting.

Come and experience a place where wild beauty restores the spirit, and where every journey begins with respect for the land.

OUR VISION

Where Nature Feels Like Home

At Trout and About, the forest is not simply a view; it is part of every moment. You wake beneath the trees, share meals in the open air, explore wild paths and fall asleep to the quiet sounds of nature all around you.

We believe camping invites us back to what matters: fresh air, open skies, shared laughter and the freedom to live simply. Away from screens, schedules and everyday noise, we move more, notice more and reconnect with nature, with one another and with ourselves.

Everyone deserves to experience that feeling. Our vision is to make camping welcoming and accessible to all, whether you are a seasoned adventurer or spending your very first night beneath the stars. Through practical guidance, thoughtful facilities and a beautiful place to stay, we make it easier to step into the outdoors with confidence.

Because once you feel at home in nature, you begin to care for it differently, and you carry a little of its peace wherever you go.
