Let us introduce ourselves
About us & what we offer
Trout and About is a campsite at the foot of the Aberdare Ranges with breath-taking scenery, wildlife, and activities galore. Disconnect as you immerse yourself into nature by exploring the forest’s diverse ancient red cedars, pine, cypress, bamboo and indigenous tree plantations and unique flora and fauna.
The campsite delivers the feeling of complete isolation from the outside world as you get to nestle in the woodland for a true sense of seclusion.
At this haven for nature lovers, you’ll enjoy the tranquility and replace life’s worries with only the best of feelings. Enjoy stargazing at our bonfire as night falls.
We provide several Ready Camp tents – Safari tents with two separate bedrooms which are perfect for families camping for the first time or looking for a hassle-free camping experience.
How it all came to be…
Our Story
We are a community-based organization (CBO) that runs a trout hatchery and a campsite in the depth of the Aberdare forest, involving the local community in conservation activities. We stemmed from a partnership between The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the Kiburu Community Forest Association (KCFA).
Our aim is to deliver as much value to the local community as well as the camping community as possible and has been doing so since it was founded in 2015.
We focus on conservation practices that prevent the pollution of rivers in order to maintain a healthy trout population.
